The Birth of Hope

We have been taught to fear the darkness, why?

Is it not in darkness that life begins?

Is it not in darkness that we can see the light of hope?

Is it not in darkness that we can see the stars and know that there is MORE!

It is under the cover of darkness that we have escaped our oppressors,

built resistance and created legacies of resounding joy.

It is in darkness that we find that our senses come alive.

We become acutely tuned into the breathing of the land.

We can feel her rustling limbs.

We can smell her breath.

And hear her heart creating rhythms that are drowned out in the light.

In the darkness we find the time to hope for better days as we rest our weariness upon heaps of fallen leaves.

In the darkness we have discovered fire and life and the desire to continue with faith and trust.

It is in darkness that we have learned to rely upon the connectivity of our souls as we link our hearts through softly touching fingertips, creating an electric vibration that leads us from night into day.

It is in the darkness that we are stoked to create safety and comfort that leads to gathering, love, family and life.

How do I tell you of my love for the sweet quiet of dark nights and warm blankets that remind me of solitude and home, warm hugs and laughter.

We have been told to fear darkness and now I know it was all a lie.

For without darkness, we would have no hope.
