Finding Joy in Rainbows: Navigating Emotions and Hardship Through Community

Beloved Friends,

In these challenging times, it’s all too easy to turn inward and feel as though everyone is against us. As personal emotions rise amid global turmoil and a wounded planet, we must lean on our community more than ever. Reach out, be a guiding light for others, and stand firm in your beliefs while supporting those around you. The kindness and relationships we cultivate now will pave the way for healing both our Earth and our connections in the future. It is not the time to succumb to darkness. Let the sun illuminate our path, the warmth guide us, and the small moments of joy sustain us. Remember to pay attention to and care for those in your circle.

As summer draws near, accompanied by both rainy days and radiant sunshine, it brings in a vibrant rainbow. I am honored to invite you to a small yet meaningful community event: PRIDE Community Picnic, on Saturday, June 6th, held outdoors at Thomas Berry Hall from 4-8pm (weather permitting; we’ll move indoors if it rains). We are proud to support South Whidbey Pride by hosting a family picnic featuring lively music by Mutiny Bay Brass Band. We’ll be joined by friends presenting the Compassion Games, which encourages kindness through meaningful actions and playful competition to uplift our communities and our planet.

This picnic is entirely free and family-friendly! You’re encouraged to bring your own picnic or a snack to share. All donations will support SW Pride and help the Whidbey Institute organize more community events. Please help us leave no trace by cleaning up afterward, ensuring we can continue hosting these small community gatherings between our private retreat bookings. I warmly invite you to come dressed in your most vibrant rainbow colors, showcasing your unique self. You are safe, and you are welcome. Expect dancing, joy, and a peaceful evening filled with community spirit.

Please RSVP so we can prepare for parking and attendance. If you’d like to volunteer, lend a hand, or simply say hello before the event, feel free to contact me directly at madisun@whidbeyinstitute.org

Joyfully with gratitude and respect —
