Volunteering

Service and Sanctuary…..a new sabbatical option

Starting January 2008, the Whidbey Institute at Chinook will offer an extended stay option for those seeking a time of reflection and peace on our beautiful land through voluntary service (25 hrs. per week). Since our housing is quite limited, we have only a few openings a year. Applications will be received at any time, but those interested are encouraged to plan several months ahead for this possibility. One month minimum stay; three month maximum. Please go to the volunteer page of our website for more information and to download a Service and Sanctuary application form

Volunteers will receive:
  1. Private housing in one of our simple cabins with separate access to bath and kitchen facilities.
  2. Participation in Institute meals when they are already being provided for a group.
  3. Participation in one Institute program if available during the extended stay.
  4. Supervision of work assignments.

Volunteers will offer:
  1. 25 hours per week of assigned work, probably on land/facilities or in the office depending on skills.
  2. Willingness to abide within community practices such as recycling, quiet hours, guest
    hospitality, mission awareness.
  3. Occasional coverage of resident caretaker duties.
